SFC Mickelson was an avid leader and supporter of Lake Minnetonka VFW Post 5919. He was a U.S. Army soldier who served in both World War II and Korea.
Dick loved his country and had intense respect for our red-white-blue flag. An enforcer of discipline with kindly manners, SFC Mickelson was the driving force in originating our Post Honor/Color Guard unit. He commanded the Post Honor/Color Guard unit for many years.
He participated in more than one hundred military veterans last rites, an outstanding commitment to the uniform. Sadly, Dick Mick passed away on September 22, 2013
Color Guard
The Lake Minnetonka VFW Post 5919 Color Guard is proud of its service in presenting our nation’s colors, the same banner we carried into battle. The red, white and blue American flag, plus the Black and White POW-MIA flag, and the VFW flag with attached streamers are ceremonially marched into view. These flags are displayed at Memorial and Veteran day ceremonies, in parades and other veteran and community events.
Please contact our Post Adjutant with ample lead time for these services.
